3: Part 1
Gippal walked down a small flight of stairs leading to a large mine behind him.
"This small mining town has been here for a long time as a mining
community, but it is better known for its resistance to the control of the evil
Empire which used to dominate this entire world. It has been said it is the town
that launched the successful rebellion against the Empire. This historic mine
was also the second pitstop in a race around worlds. Teams raced in a very close
race, which even came down to a footrace between three teams in the end, but due
to a devious strategy by Auron and Jecht, the Tifa/Paine team was eliminated.
Squall and Rinoa who were first to arrive at 4:47 pm, will now depart at 4:47
am." <Squall & Rinoa: Dating, 1st to depart: 4:47
am>
Rinoa pulled her arms into a thick jacket and shivered
a bit. "It sure is cold here Squall," she said.
Squall reached into the first clue box in front of the
entrance to the mine and pulled out the clue. He ripped it open and read,
"Travel by portal to the city of Medina Village in 1000 A.D." <Announcer
Gippal>
"Teams must travel to the Elder's House on the
west side of Narshe and find the portal in his house to travel to the city of
Medina Village, located in a new world. Teams must then find the clue box
located in the Medina Square." <Squall & Rinoa:
Dating, 1st to depart: 4:47 am>
"Portal? Ooh, that sounds interesting," Rinoa
said. "Let's go."
Rinoa and Squall started walking into Narshe in search
of the portal. Rinoa took Squall by the hand and led him into a nearby weapon
shop. There was an older man behind the counter, polishing his swords.
"Excuse me," Rinoa said to the man. Squall
crossed his arms and turned his back to them. "Sorry about him. He doesn't
like asking directions. Do you know where the portal around here is?"
"Portal? Ya got me there. Maybe you should try
asking the Elder. His house is up at the west side of town, up the mountain a
ways."
"Thank you!" Rinoa said. She looked back at
Squall and grabbed his arm. "You see? That wasn't hard."
"Nor was it helpful," Squall said as Rinoa
tugged him out the door. "We just got directions to get directions
elsewhere." <Edgar & Sabin: Brothers, 2nd to depart:
4:51 am>
"Hey bro?" Sabin said, looking up from the
clue. "Any idea what a portal is?"
"Nah. Best I can figure is something like the Cave
of the Espers," Edgar responded. "But let's not get drastic. It said
the portal is in town here. Let's head to the Elder's House."
Edgar and Sabin ran to the Elder's House and caught up
to Squall and Rinoa right outside the Elder's house. The two teams stared
unhappily at a sign on the door that read "Portal Hours of Operation: 6:00
am to 8:00 pm."
"Guess we're waiting then," Rinoa said.
"Come on Squall, let's go wait somewhere warmer."
Rinoa started to leave when Squall grabbed her by the
hood of her jacket and pulled her back. She turned and started to say something,
but Squall cut her off.
"If we leave, then we lose our place in
line," Squall explained to her. He looked to Edgar and Sabin for
confirmation. "Right?"
Both brothers nodded. <Raijin &
Fujin: Friends, 3rd to depart: 5:12 am>
Fujin tore open the clue and read it silently to
herself. Raijin watched eagerly.
"Gimme some good news," Raijin said.
Fujin shrugged. "Not our world, no good
news," she said.
Raijin looked at her confusedly. "Ya know, about
the only times I ever hear you speak in full sentences is when you're being reeeally
serious, y-ya know."
"How the hell am I supposed to communicate only
speaking one word at a time!? You think I'm retarded or something? I just do
that when we're in a hurry, and only one word is necessary."
"Geez, really?"
"YES."
"Y-yeah, well same with me, ya know?" Raijin
explained. "I only say 'ya know' when I want to, ya know? -Er, I said that
on purpose ya know? That too ya know?"
"GO."
Raijin and Fujin ran into the town in search of the
portal, eventually coming upon the Elder's House as well. <Steiner
& Beatrix: Dating, 4th to depart: 5:15 am>
"Adelbert," Beatrix said, turning the
unopened clue over in her hands over and over. "Are you upset with me for
not doing the water detour?"
Steiner put his hand on Beatrix's shoulder. "Of
course not Beatrix-dear. I'm actually very glad you chose the mail one. After
all, that water one was incredibly dangerous! That old man died from that
detour!"
"Thanks Adelbert."
"Besides," Steiner said, "I've seen your
hair when it gets wet, and you're right, it's not pretty."
Beatrix glared at Steiner, then smiled and ripped open
the clue. <Amarant & Lani: Coworkers, 5th
to depart: 5:20 am>
Lani ripped open the clue and read it outloud, trying
not to make eye contact with Amarant and hoping he wouldn't say anything. Lani
put the clue into her backpack and started to run into the town, when Amarant
suddenly grabbed her by the arm. She stopped running and stayed still, not
resisting at all.
"Look, Amarant," Lani said, "we're not
running a very good race here."
"I agree," Amarant replied. "You're not
running a very good race."
"Don't turn this on me you prick!" Lani
yelled at him, breaking his grip on her arm. "We're sucking because YOU
aren't being a team player! We need to work together if we're going to win that
money."
Amarant stayed silent and walked toward the city. <Shinra & Rufus: Father/Son, 6th
to depart: 5:35 am>
"All right Fatty," Rufus said, ripping at the
clue. "We had a good leg last time, but that whole 'losing track of the
brothers' thing killed us. We need to keep from making mistakes and we should be
able to stay ahead of the pack."
"That's optimism son, I like it," Shinra
said. "Where'd you learn such optimistic thinking?"
"From Mom. She was very optimistic. She said she
got that way while you two were married. She kept thinking things like 'maybe
he'll pay attention to me' and 'someday he'll lose weight' and 'at least when we
split up I get half his money.'"
"Ah, she was a good woman. Well, come on
Ricky."
Rufus and Shinra ran off to Narshe to find the Elder's
House, just as Strago and Relm grabbed for their own clue. <Strago & Relm:
Grandpa/Granddaughter, 7th to depart: 5:37 am>
Relm ripped open the clue and read it outloud. "So
how're you feeling today?"
Strago pounded on his chest. "Feeling great!"
"So you won't die on me again?"
"Of course not!"
"I'll believe that when I see it," Relm said.
"Come on."
Relm and Strago power walked through Narshe until they
came across the Elder's House. <Rikku & Yuna: Cousins, 8th to
depart: 5:45 am>
<Auron & Jecht: Grizzled Old Guys, 9th to depart: 5:45 am>
Rikku, Yuna, Auron, and Jecht all started the leg at
the same time after ending at essentially the same time the previous leg.
"Sir Auron? Sir Jecht?" Yuna asked. Auron
glanced at her over his sunglasses. "Why'd you do that to Paine and the
other girl?"
Auron and Jecht looked at each other, then looked back
at Yuna. "We were helping you two," Auron said.
"Helping us?" Rikku asked.
Auron nodded slowly. "They were picking up speed
and would've passed you two and us, and we were ahead of you two, so we stopped
them to keep you two in the race you see. You guys would've been
eliminated."
"I see," Yuna said, deep in thought. She
bowed to both Auron and Jecht. "Thank you Sir Auron, Sir Jecht."
"Would you like to form an alliance with us?"
Rikku asked them.
Auron and Jecht looked at each other, then back at
Rikku and Yuna. "Yeah, we can do that," Jecht said.
The two teams raced off together to find the Elder's
House with a long line of racers leading up to the door. <6:01
am>
An old man walked up the stairs to the house and passed
by everybody in line. He had a cup of coffee in one hand and a key ring in the
other, holding it by a specific key. He rubbed his eyes with his arm, then
unlocked the door.
"Looks like you're all here, so I'll explain this
to all of you right now," the old man said. "When using these portals,
there's only one rule: one team at a time. Only three people can use a portal at
time, so that would be the two team members plus their camera/sound guy. Does
everybody understand?" All the teams nodded. "Okay then. First team,
you can enter and search the house."
Squall and Rinoa ran inside and started looking for the
portal. The old man stayed in the doorway, watching them search. There weren't
many things to check. There was a door on the far right of the room, but it was
locked. There was a fireplace directly across from the entrance, two suits of
armor on either side of it, a clock and cabinet to the left, and a table with
chairs towards the middle of the room.
Squall walked to the fireplace and looked around. There
was a fire going, so the fireplace was most likely not a portal. He walked over
to join Rinoa in searching the cabinet. They opened it together and saw a blue
orb-like object glowing on a lower shelf and a bunch of large keys on the top
shelf.
"This is it," Squall said to Rinoa.
"Take one of those keys and open it."
"Okay!" Rinoa said. She reached up and
grabbed a key. "Now open!" she said, raising the key into the air. The
orb expanded to the size of the cabinet and opened, revealing a blue vortex of
nothingness. Rinoa grabbed onto Squall's arm and the pair walked into the
portal. The portal closed around them and blue streaks started swirling around
them, then suddenly, the portal reopened.
Squall and Rinoa walked out and stared at a
surprisingly different world. The room seemed civil enough if it weren't for two
imps sitting at the table looking back at them. Rinoa waved shyly, then grabbed
onto Squall's arm tightly.
"Hey! Did you people just come out of the closet?
Get out of here!" one of the imps said angrily, pointing at the door.
Squall nodded at him, then led Rinoa outside. The
Square was not hard to find, and Squall grabbed Rinoa by the wrist and ran
quickly, forcing her to run to keep up. In the Medina Square were several
creatures dancing around the clue box in the middle, singing a chant about The
Great Box of Clues. Squall pushed past them and grabbed the next clue. He ripped
it open and read, "make your way to the Millennial Fair." <Announcer
Gippal>
"Teams must make their way to a fair by way of a
mystical cave on the west side of the village known as Heckran Cave. The fair is in the human section
of this world, which should come as a relief to many racers, but in order to
find the cave, teams may have to speak to the local monsters. Once at the fair,
teams must find a well-known bell known as Leene's Bell. By the bell will be
their next clue." <Squall & Rinoa: Dating, Currently
in 1st>
"A-are you going to ask for directions?"
Rinoa asked Squall nervously.
"Nah, go for it," Squall replied.
"Uh- no. No no no no no. I don't wanna talk to
those guys! They scare me!"
"All right then. Heads or tails."
"Huh?"
"Well I'm not talking to them, and I can't decide
between going East or West."
"Fine! I'll ask for directions," Rinoa said,
walking up to the nearest green imp. "Excuse me. How do we get to the
mystical cave?"
"I'm not telling any humans anything!" the
imp yelled. "No way no how am I helping out a human. Mystic
pride!"
Squall approached the imp, flipping a five gil coin.
The imp's eyes followed the coin up and down. "Tell us where the cave is
and I-"
"I will not be bribed by humans!" the imp
yelled. "Long live the mystics!"
Edgar and Sabin ran past Rinoa and Squall and opened up
their clue.
"People are catching up," Rinoa said.
"Imp," Squall said, looking down at the imp.
"You don't have to tell us where the cave is. But if you were just talking
to yourself about the location of the cave, I might accidentally drop
this five gil."
"Make it ten."
"Fine."
The imp stared off into the distance. "Boy some
day I ought to visit that cave in the west by southwest direction."
"Thanks," Squall said. He flipped the coin
again and let it fall to the ground.
Squall and Rinoa walked toward the cave. Squall had his
hands in his coat pockets, and Rinoa was wrapped around one of his arms, staring
at Squall.
"What?" Squall asked.
Rinoa wrinkled her nose at him. "Nuh-thing,"
she said. "You're so clever sometimes."
"Sometimes?"
"Well, yeah. I mean, if you had done that quicker,
those Figaro brothers wouldn't be following us."
"It doesn't really matter. It's only one
team."
Raijin and Fujin left the residence containing the
portal and saw Squall and Rinoa run by.
"Yo Squall!" Raijin shouted.
"WHERE?" Fujin called after them.
"The cave to the southwest!" Rinoa yelled to
them as they ran on.
"Why'd you tell them!" Squall yelled at Rinoa.
"I thought we liked them!" Rinoa yelled back.
"Besides, it's just one more team." <Steiner
& Beatrix: Dating, Currently in 4th>
Steiner and Beatrix came through the portal, into the
imps' house. Both immediately drew their swords and faced off with the imps.
"Whoa whoa whoa!" the green imp in the corner
yelled. "We're just trying to eat our sandwiches. You mind taking that
outside?"
"Steiner, remember the penalty Lani got last
leg?" Beatrix said. "Let's try to avoid slaying monsters."
Beatrix sheathed her sword.
"You're right," Steiner said, sheathing his
sword as well.
Both ran outside and headed to the Medina Square where
they found Raijin and Fujin leaving the clue box in a hurry. Beatrix quickly ran
to the clue box and grabbed a clue. In a hurry, Beatrix tossed the clue into the
air, drew her sword, sliced the top off, sheathed her sword, then caught the
opened clue. She read through it quickly, then reached her arm out and pointed
at Raijin and Fujin.
"Follow them!" she yelled. Steiner quickly
agreed, and both followed Raijin and Fujin.
Amarant and Lani headed out of the imps' house in time
to hear Steiner's rusty armor clinking off into the distance. Amarant grabbed
Lani by the back and quickly tossed her onto the rooftop with ease.
"The hell's that for?" Lani yelled at him.
"Find where they went," Amarant said.
Lani looked around in the direction of the noise. She
saw several teams running in the same direction. "Okay, I know where to
go," she said. She jumped down from the roof and both she and Amarant ran
for the Medina Square. Close behind them were Rufus and Shinra who had come out
just in time to hear Lani's footsteps on the rooftop.
"Come on Rhubarb," Shinra said. "This is
going to be your first major lesson in business. If possible, always let
someone else do your work for you. Let's follow these guys."
"Did you just mix up my name with a flavor of
pie?" <Squall & Rinoa: Dating, Currently
in 1st>
Squall and Rinoa had quickly navigated their way
through the cave and were now staring into a large whirlpool cut into the rock.
"This is either really good, or really bad,"
Rinoa said. "That thing will either kill us both in a horrible drowning
death, or it might be-"
Squall cut her off when he plugged her nose for her and
wrapped his arms around her. "Deep breath," he said. Both took a deep
breath, then Squall picked her up and jumped into the whirlpool.
Moments later, Edgar and Sabin came running into the room with the whirlpool,
closely followed by Raijin and Fujin. Edgar and Sabin stopped at the edge of the
whirlpool and looked into it.
"Think it's safe?" Edgar asked Sabin.
"Well, it can't be much different than the Serpent
Trench," Sabin said.
"So you're saying it's not safe."
"Strago is old. Everybody else was fine. I'll say
'yes,' it's safe. You can go first Bro. Kings first."
"Hell if I'm going first," Edgar said.
"Guess that means we're first, ya know?" Raijin yelled from behind
them.
"WIMPS!" Fujin yelled as she ran past the
brothers and did a perfect dive into the whirlpool.
"Yeah, like she said, ya know?" Raijin
yelled, running past the brothers. "Victory, ya know!" Raijin jumped
into the whirlpool backwards and made a gun with his hand, pointing at Sabin
right before his back slapped the water and he was sucked under.
Edgar looked up at Sabin angrily, then pointed at the whirlpool. "Get your
ass in there!"
"Yessir," Sabin said, hopping into the
whirlpool.
Edgar jumped in right after Sabin had been sucked out
of sight. <Squall & Rinoa: Dating, Currently

Squall and Rinoa flopped out of the ocean separately
and landed on a grassy field surrounding an isolated house. Squall stood up,
then helped Rinoa to her feet. In the distance, Squall and Rinoa could see a
woman in a dress sitting on a bench, reading the newspaper.
"Oh thank goodness," Rinoa said. "A
person. Don't worry Squall, I'll ask for directions."
Squall and Rinoa had just barely begun to run to the
woman when suddenly Fujin flopped out of the water, landing solidly on her back.
She was about to get up when suddenly Raijin flopped out of the water, landing
directly on top of her, face down. Raijin blinked a couple times until his eyes
could focus well enough to see the scowl on Fujin's face.
"Oh, how you doin' Fujin?" Raijin said.
"Quite a trip, ya know."
"OFF," Fujin ordered.
Raijin stood up and pulled Fujin to her feet. They
looked around for a moment until they saw Squall and Rinoa directly ahead,
running to talk to some woman. Rinoa put
her arms behind her back and approached the woman on the bench slowly.
"Excuse us," she said to her softly, trying to get the woman's
attention.
The woman put her newspaper down and glanced up.
"Hi there. Haven't seen you guys around before. You new in town? My name's
Lara. What's yours?"
"Rinoa. Rinoa Heartily. But listen, we were just
wondering-"
"It's always so nice to see new people in the
town. Especially neighbors who visit me often. Not even my good for nothing
husband visits me."
"That's umm, nice," Rinoa attempted to
politely interrupt, "but we're kind of in a hurry, and-"
"Can you believe that Taban? It was his damned
invention that broke my legs, and he can't even visit me every once in a while.
I hear he's even invented a way to travel through time and space, but he still
can't make me a darn wheelchair. But it's so nice that youngsters like you can
visit me..."
Rinoa turned to look back at Squall as Lara continued
to talk Rinoa's head off. Rinoa shrugged at Squall, looking for an answer, but
all Squall could do was crack a smile.
Raijin (who had now caught up to Squall and Rinoa) approached Squall and threw
his arm around him. "Hey Squall, thanks for the info back there. It was
really helpful ya know. So not to be moochin' off you two too much, but you know
where that fair is yet?"
Squall uncrossed his arms and pointed to Rinoa and
Lara.
"Ah, well don't worry about that," Raijin
said. "We owe you one, so we'll get that for you."
Fujin approached Lara, lightly pushing Rinoa to the
side. "FAIR. WHERE?"
Lara was taken slightly off-guard, but Fujin's words
amused her. She pointed to the north. "Fair where? Fair there."
Raijin patted Squall on the chest, then took off
running with Fujin. "There you go man," he yelled back at Squall.
"Now we're equal." "Yeah,
and we owe you one!" Edgar yelled as both he and Sabin sprinted past Squall
and Rinoa.
Squall motioned for Rinoa to come quickly, then both
ran off in the same direction as the other two teams. <Auron
& Jecht: Grizzled Old Guys, Currently in 8th>
Auron reached into the clue box at Medina Square and
read it. "This thing says we need to find some cave and go to a fair."
Jecht cracked his neck. "Okay, so let's go
then."
Both Auron and Jecht saw Yuna and Rikku step out of the
house with the portal.
"Hey Auron, how do you feel about breaking out
alliance?"
"Hmp. Why would I care about that? Our last
alliance was eliminated because of us."
"Exactly," Jecht said. "Let's do that
again. Move close to me and stash the clue."
Auron put the clue into his jacket and stood directly
next to Jecht, completely blocking any view of the clue box from Yuna and
Rikku's direction. Yuna and Rikku ran up the stairs into the Medina Square and
started looking around.
"Sir Auron?" Yuna asked. "Have you seen
the clue? Is this the Square?"
Rikku made a disgusted face. "Auron? Why're you so
close to your partner? Have a bad run-in with superglue?"
Auron ignored Rikku and replied to Yuna, "We can't
find it. We asked one of the nicer locals, and he said the Square was up north
in the forest in the distance."
Yuna bowed to Auron. "Thank you Sir Auron. Come on
Rikku."
"Right! Too bad you guys spilled the beans! We can
easily beat you two in a footrace! Run Yunie!"
Yuna and Rikku took off toward the forest in the north
at full speed. Once they were out of sight, Auron pushed Jecht off him, and both
started walking south toward Heckran Cave.
"You're such a fag sometimes," Jecht said to
Auron as he dusted his side off.
"It was your idea," Auron replied.
"Besides, it worked, didn't it?"
Yuna took the lead running for the forest, when suddenly an idea hit Rikku. She
grabbed onto Yuna's hood and stopped. Yuna, feeling the pull on her hood,
stopped as well.
"What's wrong Rikku?" Yuna asked, bent over,
breathing in deeply.
"We're stupid, right?" Rikku said.
"Umm, yeah, I think so."
"Ever think those two were tricking us?"
"Why would Sir Auron deceive me?"
Rikku shrugged.
"Well, I guess it is weird that they aren't
following us," Yuna said.
Rikku looked over her shoulder. "See? I told you!
They're tricking us!"
"What happened to our alliance?"
"I heard Paine say she was in an alliance with
those two also. They're cheating! We've gotta do something about it."
"Right!" Yuna said, striking a pose. "Gullwin-"
"Yunie? Let's hurry."
"Right, sorry." <Strago
& Relm: Grandpa/Granddaughter, Currently in 7th>
Strago and Relm made their way through Heckran Cave
rather quickly even though both were being as careful as possible to avoid
another accident like the last leg. Relm spotted the cave holding the whirlpool
in advance, and by simply climbing down into the very shallow water instead of
sticking to the path, they took off a great deal of time. As they climbed down,
Rufus and Shinra walked up behind them after taking the long path.
"See Lardass?" Rufus said, pointing at Strago climbing down from the
raised path. "I told you we could've just taken that shortcut! And here
you're thinking you can't make it. Look at him! He's doing it, and he's
older than dirt's grandma!"
Strago fell to the ground and started running for the
cave with Relm. Relm turned briefly to face Rufus and Shinra. She tugged at her
lower eyelid with her pinky and stuck out her tongue at them, then turned again
and ran for the whirlpool. <Steiner & Beatrix: Dating,
Currently in 4th>
Beatrix flew out of the whirlpool and landed in the
grassy field on her back. She felt her hair which to her surprise was completely
dry. She got to her feet slowly, then walked to the edge of the land where the
whirlpool was located. Steiner was directly in the middle of the whirlpool, but
wasn't being shot out like most people were.
"Beatrix-dear," Steiner said. "I don't
think this thing has enough force to get me out. Could you lend a hand?"
Beatrix bent over and grabbed Steiner's hand. Then,
just as she pulled Steiner from the grips of the whirlpool, Amarant and Lani
shot out and landed directly behind Beatrix.
Amarant was slow to stand up, but Lani was very fast to grab him by the ear and
start pulling him along.
"Come on Flamer!" Lani yelled. "We've
got a lead on these guys if you'll just move your ass!"
Amarant stood up and started power walking behind Lani
who had already started sprinting toward the fair. Between Amarant's long
strides and Lani's short, quick strides, both were staying pretty close
together. <Raijin & Fujin: Friends, Currently in 1st>
Raijin and Fujin were the first to reach the clue box
at Leene's Bell, but Squall and Rinoa, and Edgar and Sabin were only a few
footsteps behind them. Raijin pulled the clue out and ripped it open. He pulled
out the red card.
"Roadblock," he said. "Who's
thirsty?" <Announcer Gippal>
"A roadblock
is a task that only one person may perform.
In this roadblock, one team member will
have to find the soda guzzling event,
and must chug eight drinks in less than
two minutes. Should the person not drink
all eight, he or she must let the other
racers currently waiting attempt the roadblock
before he or she may try again. For each
attempt, the amount necessary to chug
decreases by one, but racers must always
wait the full two minutes before lowering
the amount. As an additional twist, the
Millennial Fair has run out of their soda
supply, so the soda's have been replaced
with Guardia's finest beer."
"MINE," Fujin said.
Raijin opened the clue and read the details. "Oh.
You might wanna see this Fujin."
Fujin took the clue from his hands and read it over.
"SWEET!" she yelled, running to the Chugging Contest.
"I'll do it," Edgar said.
"Good luck Bro," Sabin said, giving Edgar one
solid pat on the back. "So this is
mine, right?" Squall said, looking at the roadblock clue.
"Actually," Rinoa said, "I'm kinda
thirsty, and I can do this roadblock!"
"You sure?"
"Sure!"
Squall opened the clue and started reading the details. Rinoa
looked over his shoulder and read along with him, then looked up at him in
horror.
"Squall?" Rinoa said. "I don't exactly
hold my liquor well. The last time I had a drink, I uhh- Well I know it happened
because people tell me it did, but I don't remember a thing."
"Wonderful," Squall said. "Well get in
line before other teams come. If need be, I'll carry you the rest of the
race."
Rinoa scrunched her nose and looked up at Squall.
"Thanks."
"You did lose weight, right?" Squall asked.
"ExCUSE me?" Rinoa said angrily.
"Sorry, it's just that last time I carried you I
had to stop every so often and take a break-"
"Squall," Rinoa said with clenched teeth.
"This would be a good time to shut the %#&^ up."
Squall stood in silence as Rinoa walked over to the
Chugging Contest. Fujin was first in
line for her attempt to chug eight beers in under two minutes. The large man
with a huge hairy gut sticking out from under his shirt lined up eight unopened
beers in front of Fujin. She picked up the first beer and looked to the fat man
for confirmation.
"You've got eight beers for your first
attempt," the fat man said. "You have two minutes, and your time
starts as soon as you pop open your first beer."
Fujin took a deep breath, then popped open the first
beer and immediately started chugging it. Raijin watched from the sidelines
chanting "Chug chug chug chug." She finished the first one and crushed
it in her hand before tossing it aside and starting on her second one. <Auron
& Jecht: Grizzled Old Guys, Currently in 8th>
Auron and Jecht flew out of the whirlpool and
immediately started running for the fair, when suddenly Jecht grabbed Auron by
the shoulder. Auron stopped and turned around to face Jecht.
"You know, this'll only work against one team, and
it's the one team behind us," Jecht said.
Auron looked confused, then remembered one of their
plans from before the race. "Right. Let's do it," he said.
Jecht put his backpack on the ground and opened the top
of it, pulling out a small green box and a pole. Auron reached into his own
backpack and pulled out a red and yellow flag. Jecht attached the pole to the
box and Auron threw the flag on it, constructing their own almost-believable
clue box and leaving it in the field.
"Heh, I almost wanna stick around and watch those
two use this thing," Jecht said.
"As do I," Auron said. "But we can't. No
time to-"
"Don't say it!" Jecht said. "God you say
that all the damned time. 'No time to waste, let's go,' right?"
"Hmp. Well, if I don't need to say it, then why
the hell are you just standing there? Let's go."
