"Hey Aeris, have you seen Mother?" I asked.
"Nope, sorry Seph," she responded.
"I've been awake for an hour and haven't seen or heard her at all."
I waved for her to come with me and headed to Rufus's
room. His door was closed and Edwardo was clawing frantically at it.
I broke the door down and headed in while Aeris held onto Edwardo.
"You locked your door," I told the frightened
Rufus. "It's a wolf. It can't open the door with or without a
lock. So why'd you lock your door? You know what? I don't
care. I have more important things to worry about. Have you seen
Mother lately?"
"I saw her last night," he said.
"She came in at about midnight, put that fish on my dresser, gave me a dog
leash, and told me to take care of them."
"And you didn't question this!?"
"It was midnight. I was tired."
"There's no such thing as tired when it comes to
Mother... Did she say where she was going?"
"Nope. She just left."
I really don't like Rufus. I left his room,
walked up to Aeris, pulled her arms off Edwardo, and forcefully escorted her to
the living room. Edwardo immediately ran to Rufus's room. Rufus
screamed loudly moments after. I released Aeris and headed for the
closet. I came back with two of my awesome trench coats and handed her one
as I put the other one on myself.
"We need to find Mother and don't have time to
change, but these are warm, so throw one on and follow me."
Aeris put the large trench coat on over her nightshirt
and jogged out the front door right beside me. I ran out the front gate,
but soon found that the sound of Aeris's coat dragging on the ground had
stopped. I stopped and turned to see Aeris looking at something on the
wall. I ran back to her and saw what she was looking at. It was a
note.
Dear Sephy, (Her penmanship is awful)
I wanted you to know that I've gone to see Dio to help with the construction
of my theme park. I'll be back soon. Feed my pets please 'cause I'm
sure Rufie won't feed them... well, he might feed Edwardo... heh heh. I'm
renting a car, so this journey of mine won't take too long. Buh bye.
- Jenova (She can, however, spell very well)
I looked at Aeris with probably the same worried look
that she was giving me. "We should probably go find her, eh?"
"Good idea," she said.
Well, after watching Mother play countless games of her
favorite spinoff video game, "Armando Sandiego," I knew a lot about
finding clues to finding someone. I knew that she really did rent a car
because there was rental car a ways up the road, wrapped around a lightpole.
I also knew she was on foot... in a manner of speaking. I also know by the
lack of money in my wallet, that Mother had robbed me, and we wouldn't afford a
rental car. I waved Aeris on and we jogged toward Cosmo Canyon.
About half way there, we saw Tifa jogging the opposite way wearing sweat pants
and a tank top. She was checking her pulse with her left hand, and waving
to us with the right. We stopped to wave and she walked toward
us.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Mother is missing," I said as calmly as I
could. Tifa gasped. "Aeris and I are looking for her. Her
note said she was going to the construction site of the new theme park."
"We'd better go faster then," she said.
"Let's head back to my house and take the car."
I nodded approval.
"Oh," she said suddenly. "I
forgot. My other car still needs to be fixed, and your Mother blew up my
Zolem. It shouldn't take long though. Could you help me fix
it?"
We may not have long, but I still agreed. We all
started jogging back to Tifa's house and saw a white convertible sports car
heading toward us. It was Rufus. He drove past us slowly, holding
his bleeding forehead with one hand and pointing at us with the other, all the
while, cackling evilly at our lack of a car. He then gave us the finger
and sped off quickly. We got back to Tifa's garage and glanced over her sleek,
black car. It was a foreign model, which means it was imported from Wutai.
No wonder it brokedown. Aeris didn't know anything about cars, so I told
her to go back to the house, get changed, and break something expensive of
Rufus's, while Tifa and I worked. She ran off toward the house and Tifa
popped the hood of her car.
