Again I forgot about Yuffie. She knew where the prison was, and I really
don't think she wanted to go with the Turks, so she tagged along with
us.
"So which was is it?" I asked Yuffie.
"I'll tells ya what way it bes," came the all
to familiar voice above us. A hatch in the air duct opened up and Marlene
came falling through it. Apparently she didn't know how far it was from
the ground when she jumped because she fell a good fifteen feet, landing face
flat on the floor with a sickening thwack. Behind her, Barret
crawled out of the air duct and hopped down to the floor, landing on his feet.
"Hey Seph," he said. "Ya don'
hafta worry 'bout us. Let's jus' get out o' here. Oh, and don' worry
'bout Marlene. She'll be fine."
"Well that saves us some time," Aeris
said. "Now we just have to worry about getting our asses out of here
unburned."
After Aeris spoke, Marlene's head shot up and looked
straight at Barret.
"Yo Marlene, you say a goddam thing and I'll leave
ya to burn. Trust me, you'll be darker than I am now."
"Hey! Niggapapa! Stop stealin' my
lines!" Marlene stood up unharmed.
"So Seph, where's Dyne at?" Barret asked.
"Oh, he's with the Turks. Come on, let's
head to the emergency elevator."
We headed to the elevator. Along the way, I
explained the Turks' situation to Barret. It was probably for the best
since we found the Turks and Dyne waiting for the same elevator as us.
Hey everyone! How's it going?
The elevator door slid open, and we all crammed
into the elevator. The doors closed and the little red light for the
maximum weight exceeded went on.
"Oh crap," Tseng said. "Some of us
will have to wait."
"In a burning building!?" Yuffie
yelled. "There's not enough time."
"Well I can fly," I said. "I'll
just jump."
"Just you won't take enough weight off,"
Tseng said. "You'll need to take like, three other people with
you."
Don't worry. I got this all worked out.
"Mother? Where are you?" I said
looking around the elevator. She wasn't anywhere I could see, until I saw
the hatch on the top of the elevator swinging open. "Mother?
What're you planning?"
Well, we're going down aren't we? I'm just
cutting this pesky wire that's holding us on the up side.
"No- wait!"
It was too late. She went all out trying to get
the elevator to fall. She cut the cables and blew out the emergency
brakes, and now we were in a plummeting elevator of doom.
Don't worry. Just jump when we're at the
bottom. We'll be fine.
The elevator numbers were rolling back extremely
fast. 65-61-56-49.
"Yo!" Barret yelled. "I got
this. Somebody peel up some floor so I can get my gunarm under dis
elevator."
The Turks went to work pulling up a lower floor
panel. 41-32-25. They finally pulled the metal panel up off the
ground. Green lights shot up around Barret in that dreadful limit break
style. As opposed as I am to using those things, if he has a plan, then
I'm good with it. 18-12-5. Barret stuck his gunarm in the hole and
began his infamous 'Catastrophe' limit break. The gunarm shot out a bunch
of smoke and steam and other stuff, fighting the force of the falling elevator
and slowing our decent. 4-3-2.
Jump!
The elevator stopped right at the first
floor. Dyne forced the doors open, and everybody slowly left.
"Yo! Y'all better hurry," Barret
said. "Don't you know what happens after this?"
Oh shit, he's right. That was just the charge up
for his most powerful attack. Now we were all panicked and rushing out of
the elevator. All except Mother that is. She was cheering for her
jump plan that saved the day. I grabbed her by the head and yanked her out
of the elevator.
Whee!
After we got out of the elevator and ran halfway
across the room, Barret shot off a giant blast, destroying the elevator shaft
and a good portion of the room. The wall to the outside fell, and once
Barret was done, we all left through the opening. When we stepped outside;
however, we encountered a pack of twenty machine gun-toting Cait Siths.
