True
Cast

Benjamin:
This whole thing is a huge
stretch, so bear with me. If there's
a plot to this game, then Benjamin is
the protagonist. If not, then just ignore
all of this. I really considered putting
all of them into "Unnecessary Cast"
and calling it done, but I'll pretend
this game has a plot and go on that idea.
Benjamin is easily the only important
character, but only in that he's saving
the day. He is just kinda...told to save
the world, so he does. He's an adventurer
and was apparently bored, so he goes for
it. He's always in the party and everybody
else is basically just saying "Woo!
Go Benjamin!" so he's gotta be the
main character. But I have nothing else
to say on the matter.

Phoebe/Character
2: I'm kind of scaling things
in this game's favor. In no other Final
Fantasy would I consider Phoebe a True
Cast, but I'm more putting her here to
represent a blank "Character 2"
slot. Benjamin in no way saves the day
alone and removing all characters would
change the game entirely. So Phoebe is
here to represent "Character 2"
because she's the most plot-heavy character
in this game of unimportant characters.
She is also one of the only self-motivated
characters, who is trying to accomplish
her own goals and ends up falling in with
the "save the world" plot. She's
also the character that is with you for
the final fight, so she's obviously invested
enough in saving the world to fight the
Dark King.

Secondary
Cast

Tristram:
Tristram is kind of the comic relief
of the game (though it took me a while to figure
that out). He's your resident treasure hunter
and he just joins you to find some treasure.
He blackmails you into going to a dungeon with
him because you want to save Kaeli's life,
which is totally heroic. "Help me raid
this dungeon, then...sure, after that, your
time-sensitive, dying friend may live."
But he's secondary because he's always around,
teasing yet supporting Benjamin. He doesn't
get into your party very often, but it's implied
that he's occasionally running secondary tasks
for you, which actually would've been an interesting
aspect to add to the game if they had. Anyway,
he's Benjamin's friend (sorta) and even goes
treasure hunting with him in the end, so as
the only character that seems to give a crap
about Benjamin post-saving-the-world, he's
Secondary. Barely. |

Unnecessary
Cast

Kaeli:
If you're in a forest, Kaeli is your
girl. She helps you in both forest
segments. But I find it ironic that the girl
that talks to trees is also the one that gives
you the axe, which, you guessed it, cuts down
trees. No wonder they poisoned her! Or whatever.
Point is, she's pointless. She sometimes shimmies
into the "Character 2" role, but
the game could've gone without her. Just add
her character to Phoebe's. |

 |
| |
Reuben:
Reuben is really pointless. You meet
him and he decides he'll help you if you free
his dad. So you talk to Tristram, who's in
the same dang town, get a key from him, and
open the door to save his dad, who apparently
can't work a lock. And that's all the motivation
it takes. He helps you in the volcano, then
falls off a bridge pointlessly. And then, what's
worse? Instead of just climbing up and joining
you, he tells you to go on ahead and he'll
meet up later. "Umm, I can wait. I can
even take one of these vines and make you a
rope to climb up, but...if you're cool, then...see
ya." |

Final
Remarks
There's
barely a plot to this game and it really
could be played Zelda-style, since that's
about all it is, but Benjamin needs a
little help from his friends (he gets
by with a little help from them), but
Link can do it all by himself. I feel
like they wanted to make a Zelda game,
but decided to stick with Final Fantasy,
so they made the battles boring and added
a few characters. This game could've been
better and more Final Fantasy-like had
the characters joined you and traveled
with you instead of apparently using the
buddy system.
The
game has two characters: Benjamin and
TheRest. Phoebe is by no rights her own
character and probably everybody should
be considered Unnecessary, but that's
largely because the plot is not an RPG
plot. There aren't enough twists and turns
to constitute a full cast, so this is
almost like trying to do a True Cast for
Super Mario Bros. 2 and saying
"Well I always used the Princess,
so she's True Cast, but once I used Luigi,
so he's Secondary." It's a scaling
issue. Phoebe's plot is like, barely anything,
but the whole game's plot is barely anything,
so she's actually in a fairly large, important
chunk percentage-wise. I could also see
writing out all characters and having
Tristram as "Character 2" for
the entire game. The game might be pretty
interesting this way, but they weren't
trying for that effect, and I won't fault
them for it. It's a "for fun"
game and is one that really isn't worthy
of nor intended for analysis.
